School Football Update 7

Since the last update it has been the school's B teams that have taken centre stage over the past couple of weeks. The boys' B team have played league matches against Lansdowne and Stifford Clays while the girls' B team played a cup match against Somers Heath

Boys

The boys' B team had a 100% record in the league heading into their encounter with Lansdowne and were looking to keep this record intact, however, Lansdowne proved strong opponents.

An end to end match, with both teams creating lots of chances, ended in a 4-1 defeat for the Stanford team with Ben S scoring the Stanford goal.

Player of the match: This was awarded to Benjamin M for the qualities he showed in his role as team captain.

The following week the boys had a chance to bounce back from this defeat when they travelled away to Stifford Clays.

This was another close encounter but one in which Stanford always looked to just have an edge over their opponents. Stanford were creating the better chances but as the clock run down it didn't look like the team were going to get the lucky break that they deserved. However, that all changed when Samuel W shot and the Stifford Clays goalkeeper failed to stop the ball going through his legs.

The team therefore returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory.

Player of the match: This was awarded to Jack F for a superb goalkeeping performance that included a wonderful save from a Stifford Clays free kick.

Girls
The girls' B team played their cup match against Somers Heath and were looking to again build on the hard work that they had been putting in during training.

This match proved to be an evenly contested affair with both teams looking to attack their opponents and score goals. Unfortunately, it was Somers Heath who finished their chances to run out 3-0 winners but this score did not reflect the evenness of the contest or the hard work and effort that the girls put into their performance throughout.

Player of the match: This was awarded to Ellie T who gave a solid, committed display at the back.
