Mandarin Teacher Working in KS2

On Thursday 26th March a Mandarin teacher, called Miss Chen, started working in KS2.
Miss Chen has been asked by St Cleres to come and work at Stanford-le-Hope Primary for the next 6 weeks. This, along with many other new ventures in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), is a way of our school promoting the learning of languages and cultures of other countries.
Miss Chen, who's home country is China worked with Class 14 (Year 6), teaching them many new and interesting facts about her country and it's language. One of the facts was that there are 1.3 billion people living in China. That's around one quarter of the entire worlds population!
As well as finding out about the country of China, they also learnt how to say: 'hello', 'how are you?', 'I am good', 'thank you' and 'goodbye'... All in Mandarin, the main language of China.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the 30 minute session and were continuing to use the language we had learnt in the afternoon aswell. Miss Chen will be working in other KS2 classrooms during the rest of this half term (Spring) and throughout the next half term (Summer). We look forward to welcoming her into our school in the coming weeks. |
